Mad Film Lab - Color Film Development in the Houston area
If you’re looking for a good film lab to develop your color or B&W film locally in the Houston area, give Mad Film Lab a try!
Mad Film Lab was recommended to me by my film photography teacher Amy Blakemore. This is where she usually gets her color films developed. And since Amy’s a professional color film photographer who’s been taking and printing color film for twenty plus years, whoever she trusts, I also trust. :)
Mad film lab is a one man operation run by James. There’s no physical store front. He works at the The Menil Collection, so film drop off and pick up is basically M-F 9-5 at the Menil - back door on Branard St. Just let him know the approximate time you’ll be dropping by. He’s quick to reply to emails/texts and turnaround time is about a week. He’ll invoice you with a payment link once he’s finished developing the film. After it’s paid for, you can go pick up the film from him at the Menil (and you’ll have access to your scanned film files online for 30 days, if you had picked that option).
It’s $6 per roll to develop color film and an additional $4 if you want it scanned, very reasonably priced. He has developed many rolls for me already - so far so good!
One thing to note, he will not cut the film for you. It’ll come back has a whole uncut roll, sleeved for protection, and you’ll have to cut it yourself. This is the way I prefer it, but in case this might be an issue, I thought I’d just mention it here.
